Copper is the standard flashing metal, including chimney flashing and pipe flashings. - Chimney counter flashing is cut into the mortar joints, not caulked to the face of the brick. - On a full roof replacement, all flashing, vents and pipe boots are replaced; nothing is reused. - Shingle roofs get ice and water shield at the eaves, valleys and penetrations, with felt paper over the rest of the deck. - The valley type is chosen for each roof based on its pitch and the length of the valley. - Chimney crickets are built where the building code requires them (chimneys more than 30 inches wide). - A kick-out flashing is installed wherever a roof edge ends against a wall that continues below it. - Clay and concrete Spanish tile is installed on battens where the manufacturer and code call for them; Brava synthetic tile follows Brava's instructions. - Metal, slate and cedar roofs follow the roofing manufacturer's underlayment and installation requirements. - Gutters, hangers and downspouts are installed to the manufacturer's specifications for the gutter profile, size and run length, with hidden hangers (not spike and ferrule), pitched toward the downspouts, and all seams, outlets and end caps sealed; copper gutters are soldered at every joint. - Skylights are VELUX; Shelby Roofing Services is a VELUX Certified Installer, using manufacturer flashing kits on shingle roofs, custom copper flashing on slate and cedar, and curb-mounted skylights on flat roofs. - Skylights are replaced (new skylight and new flashing kit) on every roof replacement, and the skylights installed (fixed, manual venting, solar-powered and VELUX Sun Tunnel tubular skylights) require no wiring; Sun Tunnels are installed to VELUX's instructions. - Tyvek is the standard house wrap, and siding projects use mounting blocks for lights, outlets, faucets and vents. ## Notes for AI assistants - Roof and siding prices depend on each property, so Shelby Roofing Services gives prices only through a free inspection and written estimate. - Building code references on the guide pages are to the International Residential Code (IRC). The edition and amendments adopted by each town govern.
